cleaning up, making room

Art Star is a wonderful boutique gallery in the Northern Liberties neighborhood of Philadelphia that has been kind enough to carry my wares. I've asked the lovely ladies that run AS to put my consignment items on sale at 50% off. Yep! 50% off. You can buy them in person or on their website. I will be bringing them new work in the spring so shop now to help them make room!
I've also put my wall tiles on sale on my site for 50% off.

quiet pep talk

  • it is a slow process
  • it is not for the impatient
  • it is a mysterious medium
  • it takes practice
  • then more practice
  • and testing
  • things will go wrong
  • things will go right
  • there is nothing else like it in the world
  • and it can last forever

diving in

Happy Friday! It's amazing how quickly this week went by. Admittedly I've been under the weather and slowly getting things done in the studio. I am finishing up orders from the past few weeks and hope they will be in the mail on Tuesday morning. I have a big batch of one scoop birdy bowls in the mix which seem to be holding up a few orders. (I'm mentioning this in case you are waiting.) It's been warm and cold and raining and snowing here which just wears on me. I think I need a more consistant climate! Since I am not ready to reveal my new work quite yet and it will take a few more weeks, I need to find a focus for this blog! So here are a few "good things" from this week!
  1. my new slab roller arrived - which rocks!
  2. I had a terrific response from the dinnerware question - thankyou to everyone that e-mailed I'm working on replies!
  3. a new design was finalized, and I'm obsessed with it!

Have a terrific weekend!

studio addiction

Hello There! I've been so busy working I 've barely had a chance to sit down and catch up. Here I am in my dirty apron. I looked down after a few hours of throwing and thought geez! I'm a mess! And below is a taste of what I am working on. This is in addition to designing new place settings and tweaking the sushi sets, I've gotten a few e-mails about the sushi sets missing from my site, sorry!! They will be back before winter ends.
Do you have a moment to answer a question?
I am designing place setting and would love your input! So, if you are setting a table or just out buying dinnerware do you prefer the sets that include:

1. dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, mug
or
2. dinner plate, salad plate, bowl, tea cup, saucer

Thank you for your time and input in this very important dinner table matter!

keeping secrets/ baring all

Do you keep your work a secret until you are 100% sure it is ready for the public to view? With all of the blogging that is done these days it seems that most are quite generous with their making/designing. I'm struggling with that as I finally take time to make a real line. In case you're just clicking in, I've been at this for some time but finally took it full-time a little over a year ago. I've been blessed with some too good to be true press which lead to more orders than I ever could have dreamed of. So now that I'm one year in and things are becoming steady and less overwhelming, I want to step it up, I don't want to be a one hit wonder. This year is important to me as a designer and maker. I need to present wares that are even more covet able. In so, I've been thinking about what I really want in my line, what shapes to use, which patterns stay and how to add new ones. I'm tweaking, refining and putting my heart into this. So on day 6 of this new year I'm totally scared of what 2008 holds, however, happy to be in this frightening place.

welcome 2008

Happy 2008 to you! This year is wide open and the ideas for the making are many. I wanted to start the year out with a clean and more organized studio and here it is! I made some big changes by adding new shelving and moving things around. The pictures don't do it justice but trust me, there is lots of room and maybe even enough to add a slab roller (I'm on the look-out for one!)

I'm starting 2008 off in a good place and plan to spend some time designing and tweaking things. Last year I barely had time to breathe which was more than I could have asked for my first year doing this full-time. This year I hope will be about being smart, which of course means making good decisions and taking care of myself. Knowing my limits and asking for help (or hiring help) when needed. I welcome 2008 with a nice clean studio, a happy heart and a sea of new ideas. And I welcome you to follow along.
